Do not support stolen translations!
Recently a new "scanlator" has appeared for Fruits Basket. Xinan/Xnn has released chapter 133 and 134. At the beginning we thought nothing of it, just a quick worker with good quality translations. (thinking nothing of the fact that no translator is mentioned on the credits page.)

This person has been stealing Shadow's translations and using them on their scanlations. Shadow says one every translation page, twice before putting the translation up:
THIS TRANSLATION IS NOT TO BE USED FOR SCANLATIONS!!!
Appart from this, this person has even admitted that the translations are not their own and that Shadow doesn't let them use the translations.

Judging by this person's quite poor grammar and where they come from, english is not their first language and are just copying and pasting Shadow's work onto the scans.
As you guys know I've had similar problems in the past and I find it terrible that this person is getting away with stealing another's work without even crediting Shadow for it.
Please, if you guys support mine and Shadow's work, don't support these scanlations! It's not only giving us scanlators a bad name, but also the sites that host it without knowing they're using stolen work. This person is being praised for hard work they didn't do and it needs to stop so Shadow gets the credit she deserves. Even a child knows how to copy and paste after all.

I think he's waiting for the raw of 135 to come out on nemuidesu distro, so he's not even (at the least) doing his own cleaning.There is a group called illuminati-manga that says they are working on newer chapters as well as magicbulletgirl and yourself. I'd rather just wait for those.In a way I fell bad 'cause he's obviously not conversant enough in english to read the discontented messages of real scanlators on other forums.

I will not remove my posts to the admins on forums until they remove the files which have Shadow's translations in them, there is no other way to make contact with them.
Shadow makes it very clear that you are not to use her translations and you even admitted you knew that, yet you still used her translations.
I think you'll find it's more than 70% the same, its copied word for word with about five/six words or phrases altered slightly.(Yes I read through it page by page so I do know.) Changing a few words still means that you're plagarising.

Here is my comment, all this doesn't have to be public, this is a problem that only concern to shadow, and she is the one who have to resolve it PERSONALLY with xnn, in private.
Seph you post the same thing in many places around internet and i think that is not good. i think is like a obsession of your part, you are not the law or a internet cop. Xnn confess that she/he use 2 pages, but we don't reals evidences with the other chapters, the script of the chapter will be the same thing but with others words, she cannot invent all a new script.
And everywhere you promote your work, and seems that you want that the people see ONLY your work, you don't let any space for others translators of furuba, if came a new one he/she are a translator thief.
Please stop with this, let shadow resolve this, is her problem, not yours.

Plagerism seems to be a huge problem, Otaku had the same problem a while ago did she not?...anyway ppl work hard writing things up they should get the proper acknowledgment i think. ppl that plagerise are uneducated fools if you ask me.

To the incredibly naive person who posted about Seph being an internet cop:
Frankly, how would you feel if your work, no matter how long or short it took you was ripped off without any credit and completely ignoring rules of proper conduct.
Shadow would not be aware of this if it were not for Seph. Shadow knows japanese so I don't think she goes downloading scans. She's nice enough to still be one of the few people who post translations or anything. Remember Lonely rice ball? Yeah she got fed up with whiners and I bet she would have been just as mad if someone ripped her blog too.
Xnn might have confessed to two pages but translations can be very different and very similar. Just looking page by page I say it's 90% Shadows. Seph's 70% comment was generous.
Umm, interesting you say that Seph wants to promote her work and imply she doesn't want other translators coming in. It's really interesting because THERE ARE NO OTHER TRANSLATORS, at this moment, who can translate. Cat was doing some awhile back but she hasn't been around in a while. Seph would not accuse all other furuba translators of theft. She would only do it when it is blatantly obvious.
I've already decided not to post my 135 raw when I get it and I hope Nemuidesu does not either (Or I will at least make a password for the archive.) so as to prevent people from using raws to make scans with stolen translations.
Any problem effects all of us. It's sad that some fans are being duped by these bad scans because they don't know. That shouldn't happen.

well all i have to say is that i am a big fan of shadow and seph! and to think that someone would steal shadow's work is beyond reason...it burns me up just thinking about it!! i went to xinan's link that was posted to see what this person had done but you had to download it. i personally thought that was a waste on my hard drive so i didn't. but in regards to xinan...STOP STEALIN' WORK FROM OTHER PEOPLE!!! YOU'RE F@#$IN' IT UP FOR EVERYONE!!! and as to shadow and seph, thank you for all your hard work and please keep it up. i always look forward to your work and if you don't do it no one else can. oh and please don't stop posting translations...it's the only way i can get my furuba fix^_^

How interesting that I've not accused Shadow, Gem or Cat of theft then if I only want my work to be shown and am on pretty friendly terms with most of the other translators. I find it slightly odd that your grammar is about the same level as Xnn's too. (And that its equally hard for me to understand.)
Really, why don't you try translating yourself before claiming the script will be the same? You're not going to find someone who's an admitted beginner that's somehow managed to translate a chapter in exactly the same way as someone who's been doing it for much longer using exactly the same words and managed to miss out all the things that one person hasn't translated yet others have.
I think the fact that its practically word for word Shadow's translation is evidence enough, don't you?
When its something like this, its all our problem. Its affecting the reputation of all the scanlators out there and all the sites hosting stolen work.
Don't worry angel, though I'm tempted right now, I'm not going to stop when there's one chapter left. But I doubt I'll be picking up a new series after this.
Its nice to see we have so many supporters and its good to see most of the sites support us too.
I would do just summaries like I used to but now I'm working with Magic as a scanlator too its easier to translate it fully when it first comes out.

oh my oh my.....plagiarism.... i think we could discuss this until the cows come home ....out there are many people who adorn themselves with borrowed plumes, but i fear there`s not much we can do beside flooding their mailboxes and guestbooks... >_< ....unfortunately there`s no legal base to protect shadow`s work.... ...and regarding this ominous 2 pages ....i'm a beginner at japanese myself...and while translating a japanese text i *sure as hell* have a diffrent translation as my fellow students cause the japanese languages gives you sometimes a wide area of interpretions ......>x<

As to picking up a new series. I am tempted to get ahold of Yotsubato 4&5. ADV claims they'll be continuing the series next year but I'm just not convinced.
And as for chapter 136, I've read the summary that's floating around and haven't seen the scans yet but overall I'm a little disapointed with the end. I was just expecting more from Furuba's final chapter.

There's just one more thing too look forward to for Furuba after this. Unfortunately you're going to have to wait until next year. I'll be translating the other endings Takaya has done but didn't use if they're released in vol 23 as they're said to be. That volume won't be out until next year though so we'll have to wait.

In regards to chapter 136, I've noticed that the pre-summaries aren't as good as the actual chapter
i.e.(ch. 134 when everyone was saying Yuki failed the university exams). Summaries don't mention the dialogues and are just an overview of the chapter so hopefully *crosses fingers* the actual chapter will be better than the early summary.
P.S. I can't see Hana-chan doing what the summary says she's doing^^;

Xinan, I don't mean to add any more fuel to the fire, but I really don't understand how you can fail to see 70% word-for-word copy as plagrism. I think 10% of direct copying already qualifies for that. It is not pleasant to have your work stolen, even if it is but a hobby. I respect Shadow for putting up translations without fail, and for doing it with enough grace without making other non-Japanese literate fans feel like they are indebted. In fact, I believe she is one of the very few translators who is this generous with her work. Your behaviour and attitude really reflects badly on the other Fruits Basket fans, and what irks me even more is that you are now encouraging the sterotype that fans from Southeast Asia don't write or speak English well. If you have nothing truly original to contribute, don't bother contributing at all.

=( i don't like "stupid neko=cat?". Just kidding. Is it really true that we, south east asians are being stereotyped as not being able to express ourselves using proper English? That is sad. BAH! Some countries, like Singapore do emphasise on English. It is just that we Singaporeans prefer to use our speciality, Singlish =). Anw, xinan is really an @55, claiming Shadow's work as his. With his level of English, i highly doubt that he did the translation himself. Keep up the good work Seph and Shadow!^^

Yeah sadly that stereotype has been around for a while. You know, that whole engrish thing. (If you don't know what I mean watch the review episode of excel saga for an example.) Personally I think it's rubbish (like most stereotypes) I know lots of people from S Asia who are perfectly fluent in english.

I just looked at the scans from nemuidesu. I will be going insane until I know what they're saying...and I don't know what rumors were going around about Hana, but she did look awfully comfortable at Shishou's place...
I personally have to take the blame for one illegal translation scan edit. I made it for myself and a friend, and I don't know who spread it all over the place, but I'm extremely angry about it. I found it up on stoptazmo. I feel absolutely terrible about it, so now I'm not even doing scan edits for personal use with other people's translations.
I don't understand how someone could not feel bad if they have ripped off someone else's work! I mean, come on; if you do something like that, the absolute least you can do is acknowledge your own guilt, apologize, and STOP DOING IT, as well as take it off whatever sites you have control of. (Obviously, if it has ended up on a site you are uninvolved with, there is nothing you can do past asking them to remove it; you can't make them comply.) Really, a person owes it to the translator to take responsibility and try to make amends.

I don't speak Japanese but it seemed to me that Kazuma and Saki were standing REALLY close to each other, so if she has ulterior motives for being the cleaning lady it doesn't seem like he would mind^^

Just thought I'd give a final update for this post.
Due to the number of scanlations being made from Shadow's translations this year she has decided not to translate the final chapter at all. She will do a summary and make sure no part of it will be able to be used for scanlations.

I'll be giving Magic my scans for 135 and 133 soon and I'll be starting work on 136 after the 19th so we hope to have at least all but the last chapte rout before xmas. ^^
